The internet has a huge impact on our everyday lives - facilitating banking, socializing, and even the way consumers shop for a new home. From browsing for homes to paying bills, helpful websites and apps can be found easily on the computer or phone. Added convenience, however, can mean added risk. With every click, personal details, credit card numbers, and sensitive information are all stored online.
Cyber security has been flooding the news lately. Anyone who maintains non-public data is at risk of cyber attack, and small businesses lacking vast legal and security teams are accounting for a majority of the victims,. Recent events have proved those in the real estate industry have been a popular target.
Real estate agents need to know details about their client's financial situation including their credit report, pay stubs and bank statements. It is completely normal for clients to hand over this personal information to the qualified experts who will help them through the home buying process, but if everyone involved in the real estate transaction is not being cautious, there is a risk of a cyber attack.
